September 14, 2019   10:15 a.m.
    Press Release:

SBDC Entrepreneur Class Comes to Lowville

The New York Small Business Development Center at Jefferson Community
College is offering its Entrepreneurial Training Course in two locations this fall to
people interested in starting a new business or growing their existing one.  The
classroom course will be held over eight weeks on Thursday evenings from
October 3- November 21, 2019 (no class October 31) in the JCC Extended
Learning Center building on the campus in Watertown.  The course features
different speakers each week who are professionals in their fields:  banking,
marketing, accounting, insurance and business law.

For the first time, the class is being offered simultaneously via live beaming to the
distance learning classroom at the Lewis County JCC Education Center in
Lowville.  Participants there will be able to interact with the instructor and
speakers.  The Education Center was officially opened in January of this year
and includes five instructional classrooms, a fabrication lab, a mechatronics
classroom, a lab for BOCES engineering instruction, along with office,
conference and administration space for Education Center partners. Cornell
Cooperative Extension of Lewis County is also located in that building.

The Center currently offers a mix of both credit and non-college credit bearing
classes in the areas of agribusiness, hospitality and tourism, and advanced
manufacturing, as well as a variety of professional development and personal
enrichment workshops through the Workforce Development and Business
    Division.

A 14-week online version of the Entrepreneurial Training Course is also available
and will begin on October 7- January 10, 2020.  It covers the same materials in
seven modules with videos from local experts, but participants have two weeks to
complete each section and work at their own pace and location on their own
computer. The courses are co-sponsored by Jefferson Community College
Workforce Development and Business, Jefferson Country Economic
Development (JCED) and Watertown Local Development Corp. (WLDC).  Either
    course costs $195.

The courses are open to everyone in the north country. For these two courses,
the SBDC is able to offer free tuition to veterans, military members and spouses
through a special program income funding opportunity.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants who are otherwise qualified will be eligible to apply for a low-interest, micro-
enterprise loan of up to $40,000; there is also a microenterprise grant available in Lewis
    County.

Pre-registration with payment is required, by cash, credit card or checks made
payable to SBDC/JCC.  Call the SBDC at 315-782-9262 or send your registration
to: SBDC/JCC, 1220 Coffeen Street, Watertown, NY 13601. There is no refund
after the class begins unless the course is cancelled. The deadline to register for
the classroom version is September 30.

For the online course, the registration deadline is October 2 and can be paid by a
credit or debit card at https://oct19onlineetc.eventbrite.com or by calling 315-782-
9262.   If participants are veterans, military or spouses, they should not pay
online but should call the SBDC directly to register.

This program is funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the US
Small Business Administration.  Reasonable accommodations for persons with
disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance.
