morning, with the Honorable Daniel R. King presiding, accepting a plea deal on charges stemming from a March 8 drug bust at his residence on the Artz Road. Mathew J. Farnsworth, 39, pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class A-2 felony and fourth- degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a class A misdemeanor. Mr. Farnsworth admitted to knowingly and unlawfully possessing 109 grams of methamphetamine and bolt-action rifle during the execution a search warrant at his home on March 8, 2019 in the town of New Bremen. Sentencing was set for October 18, when he is expected to receive 5 years in State prison, followed by 5 years of post-release parole. Judge King indicated he would recommend Mr. Farnsworth to the State prison system's Shock incarceration program, which allows inmates to serve six months of military-style incarceration with the remainder of the sentence completed on parole. Prisoners are not eligible for the Shock program until they are within 3 years of release, meaning Mr. Farnsworth would need to serve 2 years in prison before entering the program. A co-defendant in the case, Renee J. Ross, 35, entered guilty pleas on May 17 to one count each of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (CPCS), a class A felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor, and was placed n the Lewis County Drug Court program. |
