of a National Rifle Association Foundation grant again this year. Chief Randy L. Roggie said the department was awarded $2,050 this year, which will be used to upgrade approximately half of the police department’s handguns. He plans to apply again next year to replace the remaining handguns. This is the sixth year that Chief Roggie has applied for and received grant funding for the Lowville Police from the National Rifle Association Foundation. Previous grant awards have allowed the Chief to upgrade patrol shotguns used by the department. “This program is a great way for the department to upgrade and replace weapons at no cost to the Village taxpayers,” Chief Roggie said, adding that the guns purchased are completely covered through the grant with no additional funds needed from his budget. Chief Roggie said he will continue to apply for the NRA grants as long as the program is available, to ensure his officers are equipped with the necessary weapons needed at no cost to taxpayers. |
