Lewis County Names New Director of Solid Waste Management

    Lowville, NY- A new Director of Solid Waste Management was named at
    Tuesday's meeting of the Lewis County Board of Legislators, replacing Pete
    Wood, who has retired after 30 years of service with Lewis County.

    Kip Turck, who has worked at the department since 2002- most recently as a
    supervisor at the Lowville transfer station, was named as Mr. Wood's successor.
    Mr. Wood had held the position since it was created in August of 2012, when the
    department was split off from the Highway Department.

    Mr. Turck's appointment is effective July 8.

    In other notable action at Tuesday's meeting:

    *The Board approved a local law providing for installment payments of real
    property town and county taxes in Lewis County. The vote was unanimous.

    * A public hearing was set for August 6 for comment on a proposed local law
    amending and restating the establishment of the Lewis County Trail System.

    * By a vote of 8-2, the Board approved the mandated salary increase for the
    District Attorney. Legislators Andrea Moroughan and Randy Lachausse were
    opposed.

    *The Board accepted a grant from NYS Agriculture and Markets, in the amount of
    $50,000, for the creation of an Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan for
    Lewis County.

    *The Board approved the closeout agreement and final payment with E.F.
    Johnson Technologies for the Emergency Communication Radio System project.
