the Wax House at Snow Ridge in Turin, Saturday night when they were notified that the event was being relocated to the school. "A student came forward to high school principal Brian Finn with a social media post that stated a threat to the event," Lowville Academy Superintendent Cheryl Steckly told linkinglewiscounty.com. "Law enforcement were notified immediately, with our first priority being the safety of our students. As a precaution, we made the decision to relocate the event to the gymnasium at the school, a safe environment for the students where we could better control the entering and exiting of individuals. We take any threat very seriously," Mrs. Steckly said. Lowville Police tell us that at least six officers, including members of the Lowville Police Department, Lewis County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police were called in to monitor the event at the school. "I'm so proud of the students," Mrs. Steckly said, noting how helpful and cooperative they were in picking everything up and moving to the school. "The DJ was able to set back up in the gymnasium and the students were back to dancing and enjoying the evening in a short time." Law enforcement officials stayed on scene through the conclusion of the event, shortly before midnight, with no incidents reported. The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the threat, and no details have been released at this time. We'll continue to update this story as information is received. |
