Lewis County Runners Headed to Nationals After
Finishes at NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track Championships

    Middletown, NY- Four Lewis County high school track runners were in
    Middletown this weekend, competing in the New York State Public High School
    Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Outdoor Track Championships.

    Lexi Bernard and Hannah Ielfield, both from South Lewis, ran in the girls
    competition, with Colton Kempney and Cory Demo, both from Beaver River,
    running on the boys side.

    Sophomore Hannah Ielfield, competing in her second State outdoor meet, ran in
    two events, placing 2nd in the Division 2 Small Schools 3,000 meter race with a
    new school record time of 10:02.01. The time was 8th place overall across all
    divisions, earning her a Federation Medal. Hannah also took 3rd place in the
    Division 2 Small Schools 1,500 meter race, posting a time of 4:42.60. Hannah will
    race in the 2,000 meter Steeplechase at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in
    Greensboro, NC on June 15.























    Freshman Colton Kempney, competing in his first State outdoor meet, ran in
    the 3,000 meter Steeplechase on Saturday morning, recording a time of 9:55.73
    to earn 6th place in the Division 2 Small Schools standings. Colton will race in
    the 3,000 meter Steeplechase at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in
    Greensboro, NC on June 15.






















    Freshman Lexi Bernard, competing in her first State outdoor meet, placed 6th in
    the Division 2 Small Schools 3,000 meter race, posting a personal best time of
    10:10.20. Lexi will also be running in Greensboro, participating in the Freshman 1
    mile race on Friday. (Brynn Bernard, of South Lewis, will be running in the Junior
    High 1 mile race on Friday in Greensboro.)






















    Junior Cory Demo, competing in his first State outdoor meet, ran in the 1,600
    meter race on Saturday, posting a personal best time of 4:20.25 to place 5th in
    the Division 2 Small Schools standings.
