Brantingham Man Placed on Interim Probation Conditions
After Admitting to Possessing Materials to Manufacture Meth

    Lowville, NY- A Brantingham man was placed on interim conditions of probation
    on Friday morning in Lewis County court, with the Honorable Daniel R. King
    presiding, after admitting to possessing the materials used in the manufacturing
    of methamphetamine.

    Raymond Goethals, 53, entered a guilty plea to a charge of third-degree
    Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, a class D felony, admitting that he
    possessed the materials to make the drug at his home during the overnight hours
    of October 23 into October 24, 2017.

    He was then placed on interim conditions of probation for a year, with a
    sentencing date set for May 1, 2020. If the interim probation term is successfully
    completed, the felony plea will be vacated and will instead be reduced to a
    misdemeanor charge, with Mr. Goethals then serving an additional two years of
    probation. If the interim probation is unsuccessful, the felony plea will remain and
    Mr. Goethals would be sentenced as a second-felony offender to serve 2 years
    in State prison followed by 2 years of parole.

    In other activity in Lewis County court Friday:

    Dawn M. Rowsam, 44, of Glenfield, pleaded guilty to one count each of second-
    degree Offering a False Instrument for Filing and fifth- degree Welfare Fraud,
    both class A misdemeanors, admitting to receiving $1,450 in benefits from the
    Lewis County Department of Social Services to which she wasn't entitled.
    Restitution has been paid in full. Sentencing was adjourned to June 7, when Ms.
    Rowsam is expected to receive a one year conditional discharge.

    David A. Sutton, 27, of Croghan, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of fifth-
    degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and a charge of second-degree
    Criminal Contempt, both class A misdemeanors. Sentencing was scheduled for
    July 12, when he his expected to receive one year in Lewis County Jail.

    Joe T. Vessels, 54, of Sulphur, OK, pleaded guilty to an amended count of fifth-
    degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class D felony. Mr.
    Vessels admitted to possessing methamphetamine, with the intent to sell, during
    a traffic stop on June 7, 2018, in the town of Denmark. Sentencing was
    adjourned to July 19, when he is expected to be placed on interim conditions of
    probation for a year.
