Village of Turin Recognizes War Heroes With Honorary Banners

Turin, NY-

The village of Turin is honoring their war heroes by placing honorary

banners on utility poles around the State Route 26 intersection. The first four

banners were installed on Monday, with the village planning on adding four

additional banners each year, according to mayor Josh Leviker.

"This is a way to honor the individuals who served and sacrificed for their country

and community," Mayor Leviker said. "These individuals will now have their long

lasting legacy showing for the people passing through our little village."

Village trustee Dennis Fazekas brought the idea to the village board over the

winter and lead the effort by contacting family members for information and

photos of the veterans.

Honored with the first four banners are:

Tom Wiedrick

Orrin Hill

Bill Kapfer

Mick Freeman
