housing complex on Hemlock Drive, now known as Willow Landing. Lowville fire crews were dispatched right around five o'clock this evening, quickly arriving on scene. Mutual aid was immediately requested from Martinsburg, and then Castorland, New Bremen, Croghan and Carthage. Lowville Police officer Cole Boliver was the first to arrive on scene, and told linkinglewiscounty.com that the resident in the unit where the fire originated was not home at the time, but not knowing this Officer Boliver gained entry to sweep the residence for occupants. The upstairs unit was vacant at the time of the fire. Units next door in the same building were evacuated, along with units at adjacent buildings. Everyone got out safely, with no injuries reported, Officer Boliver said. Officials on scene believe the fire originated in the back section/garage area of the downstairs unit, where the heaviest damage occurred. Flames were visible when crews first arrived, but the fire was quickly knocked down and contained by 6 p.m. We'll update with the official fire report, when available. |
