on Thursday estimates a loss of 129 residents in Lewis County between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018, bringing the county's estimated population to 26,447 residents. This follows a statewide trend, with New York state as a whole losing an estimated 48,000 residents over the same period. New York was one of nine states to see an overall population decline. The current figures are estimates, with the U.S. Census Bureau taking full population counts every ten years, with the next full census due in 2020. During the last full census count in 2010, Lewis County had a population of 27,087 residents. Based on current estimates, the county has lost 640 residents since that time, a 2.4% decline in population. |
