Lowville, NY- The Lowville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported sugar
shanty fire at 8825 Number Three Road, around seven o'clock on Sunday night.

While en route, due to dispatch information of flames being visible, Copenhagen
and Castorland departments were requested to respond as a precaution. Upon
arrival, crews found a working fire in the roof line of the building, Lowville Chief
    Joe Austin said.

Building owners were putting water on the fire to knock it down until firefighters
arrived. The building was relatively small, so Castorland was requested to
standby at their station. Fire units worked to extinguish the fire and worked with
building owners to make sure all equipment and items in the structure were
safely out of the structure before putting water on the fire, Chief Austin said.

The fire was extinguished and controlled in less than 15 minutes, according to
the chief. Overhaul took a little longer so crews could wet down the ground in the
vicinity, to make sure no embers could start a grass fire later. Fire units cleared
the scene and were back in service in under an hour. The cause of the fire was
    not listed.
