    American Red Cross Aids Twelve After Port Leyden Fire

    WATERTOWN, NY (April 21, 2019)  - Volunteers from the North Country Chapter
    of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to twelve  people
    after a multi-family fire on Sunday afternoon on River Road in Port Leyden (Lewis
    County).

    The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter,
    food and clothing to three adults and nine children, ages 18, 17, 13, 12, 12, 10,
    10, 10 and 5. Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits
    containing personal care items and stuffed animals for the children. In the coming
    days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected
    by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.
