Lowville, NY- The Village of Lowville Board of Trustees held their regular
monthly meeting on Wednesday, with Trustee Charlie Truax excused from the
    meeting.

    Highlights from the meeting include:

  • A public hearing was held on a proposed 5% water rate increase,
recommended by the municipal board. The board ultimately decided to
table the proposal for now, citing plenty of time to make a decision before
any increase could be implemented. Any rate hike wouldn't be able to be
applied until May 1st, the start date of the next billing cycle. Trustees
asked their architecture and design firm, GYMO Architecture Engineering
& Land Surveying DPC, to reevaluate projected revenue streams to the
water fund to determine if an increase is still warranted. The board plans
to discuss the issue further at their January meeting.

  • The board heard a proposal from the Family, Career and Community
Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Lowville Academy for a banner project to
honor veterans in Lowville. The group was looking for permission to hang
the banners on light poles in the village from May through November each
year. The board expressed their support of the project, noting that
organizers would likely need to ontain permission from National Grid as
    well.

  • An update from GYMO on the Five Streets project indicated that most
work has been completed for the season, with construction crews
    returning in the spring.

  • The board formally declined an offer to participate in the Central Lewis
County Regional Water Study, coordinated by the Lewis County Planning
Department, based on the recommendation of the municipal board.

  • The board approved a new NYS Sexual Harassment Policy, as required
    by law.

  • The board agreed to pursue participation in the National Grid Outdoor
    Street Lighting LED Conversion Program.
