Lowville, NY- After collecting donations throughout the past year, Lewis
County Office for the Aging (OFA) staff and volunteers were able to distribute
shelf-stable food items to their home delivered meal seniors yesterday.

In July, OFA Director Kelly Hecker put out a call to the community, providing a
list of food items the office was in need of. The community responded in a huge
way, with food donations taking over portions of the office. Businesses and
individuals alike contributed to the program.

The shelf-stable food program allows senior citizens on the home delivered
meal program to have a backup supply of food, in the event that inclement
weather this time of year prevents drivers from making a home delivery on a
    given day.

For more on the program and the distribution yesterday, you can see our
    interview with Ms. Hecker below.
