Lowville Man Pleads Guilty in Child Assault Case

    Lowville, NY-  A Lowville man appeared in Lewis County Court this morning,
    with the Honorable Daniel R. King presiding, entering guilty pleas to a pair of
    felony assault charges, relating to two separate incidents, and a child
    endangerment charge.

    Jacob D. Gearhart, 26, of Lowville, pleaded guilty to second-degree Assault, a
    class D felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A
    misdemeanor, relating to a June 8, 2017 incident in the Town of Denmark.

    Sentencing was set for November 16, when he is expected to receive a three
    year State prison term.

    Mr. Gearhart admitted to intentionally breaking the femur of a 5-year-old girl in
    his care in the Town of Denmark on June 8, 2017.

    Mr. Gearhart additionally pleaded guilty to the second felony Assault charge,
    after he and another inmate being held in the holding cell at the Lewis County
    Courthouse attacked a third inmate, causing injuries.

    Mr. Gearhart is currently being held in Jefferson County, awaiting sentencing
    on charges of attempted first-degree Robbery and second-degree Assault that
    he pleaded guilty to there.
