Lowville, NY- The Lewis County Board of Legislators will hold a public
hearing on Tuesday, November 20, beginning at 5 PM in the legislative
chambers at the old courthouse in Lowville, for public comment on the
proposed 2019 Lewis County Tentative Budget, which calls for a slight
property tax increase of 1.96 percent.

Lewis County Board of Legislators November 20, 2018 Meeting Resolutions

Breaking Down the Proposed 2019 Lewis County Tentative Budget:

The 2019 Lewis County Tentative Budget raises spending by over $2 million
from last year (a 4.56% increase), appropriating $47,645,641 compared to the
2018 adopted budget of $45,568,424. By more than doubling the amount taken
from the fund balance for 2019, ($1.65 million compared to the $820,000 used
in the 2018 adopted budget) the property tax rate is proposed to increase by
1.96% year-over-year, below the 2.44% State tax cap. This equates to an extra
15-cents for every $1,000 of assessed value, making the 2019 tax bill $7.49
per $1,000 of property value, if the tentative budget is approved. A home
valued at $100,000 would see a $15 increase to $749.
