Turin, NY- Voters in the South Lewis Central School District will be considering
a scaled-back version of the single-campus Capital Improvement project on
Tuesday, October 23. Voting will take place from noon to 8 PM in the middle-
    high school music suite.

The $38.9 million project comes in about $5 million less than the similar $44
million project that was narrowly defeated by voters last December by a 545 to
    463 vote.

Based on exit polling and conversations with community members and parents,
the district made some adjustments before presenting a revised project for
    consideration.

If approved, the district would build an elementary school addition onto it's main
campus, leading to the closure of the Port Leyden and Glenfield elementary
    schools.

The proposed project would cost an estimated $120.48 per year per $75,000 of
assessed property value. When the savings of running a single campus are
factored in, that cost drops to about $70 per $75,000 of assessed value.

A Public Hearing on the project will be held on Monday, October 15, at 6:30
PM in the middle-high school auditorium.

Materials from the district laying out the details of the project are included
    below.
