Lowville, NY- Lewis County legislators returned to a tabled resolution at their
meeting Tuesday night, starting the process of potentially eliminating the
elected County Treasurer position. The board unanimously approved setting a
public hearing on the matter for November 6 at 5 PM.

A public hearing would be the first step in the process to potentially abolish the
elected Treasurer position in Lewis County, a plan that was first reported by
    linkinglewiscounty.com on August 27.

After considering feedback from the public hearing, the proposal would then
need to be placed in front of voters for a referendum to move forward, likely
during a special election. That special election could come at a cost of up to
$22,000 to the County to carry out.
