UPDATE: We spoke with Thomas Compo, Superintendent of Public Works for
the Village of Lowville. Mr. Compo said that the problem arose after a mechanical
issue with one of the pumps at Young's Pond. The pump failed yesterday and has
since been replaced. Reserve levels in the water storage tank dropped below 14
feet, prompting the Conserve Water Notice. With the excessive heat and dry
conditions, it will take longer than normal to bring the reserve levels back to the
needed level. Therefore, the Village is requesting that users of the system curb
any unnecessary water usage over the next few days while the reserve level is
replenished. Officials hope to be able to lift the Conserve Water Notice by the end
of the week.
