Lowville, NY- Starting on August 1st, the Village and Town of Lowville will be
joining forces by combining two municipal boards. Moving forward the entities will
use a joint Planning Board in addition to a joint Zoning Board of Appeals.

The Village unanimously approved the move after holding a public hearing during
their June 20th meeting. Town board members unanimously approved the
proposal following a public hearing at their July 19 meeting.

Town of Lowville Supervisor Randy Schell said both boards will consist of five
members and two alternates. The Town will appoint four members and one
alternate to each board, while the Village will appoint one member and one
    alternate.

The Village notes that it has had a difficult time in keeping a sufficient number of
members for both the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Officials
believe there will be efficiencies gained by having both boards join with the
Town boards through an intermunicipal agreement.

The joint boards will meet the fourth Wednesday of each month, with the Zoning
Board of Appeals meeting at 6:30 PM and the Planning Board meeting at 7 PM.
The first joint meetings will be on August 22.
