| Grand Jury Indicts Former Beaver River Principal on Criminal Sex Act Charges; Trial Date Set 07/13/18 12:00pm By: Nick Altmire |
indictment on former Beaver River Central School District Principal Joshua J. Stamp, 36, of Croghan. After rejecting a plea deal from the District Attorney's office, during a May 4th court appearance, the case was presented to the grand jury. The grand jury has indicted Mr. Stamp on two counts of third-degree Criminal Sex Act, class "E" felonies, and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class "A" misdemeanor. Mr. Stamp was arraigned on the charges this morning in Lewis County Court, with the Honorable Daniel R. King presiding. The case is set for a jury trial, beginning on January 14, 2019. Mr. Stamp is accused of engaging in oral sexual contact with an individual under the age of seventeen on October 1, 2016 and November 30, 2016. Beaver River Central School terminated Mr. Stamp's employment during a vote at a December 29, 2017 meeting of the board of education. Mr. Stamp started employment at the district in July of 2017, previously working at the Gouverneur Central School District. |
