county on Wednesday evening, leaving a path of destruction through an area of the Town of Diana. Lewis County Emergency Management officials believe straight-line winds associated with one of the storm cells was the cause of significant damage in the Town of Diana. A noticeable path was visible in a line from the North Shore Road in the town to Pirate Lane in the Village of Harrisville. Officials said one home lost it's roof in the winds, on the Hands Flat Road (Lower Maple Street), displacing an adult and three children. Additionally, a garage along the path was reportedly destroyed, while a number of other garages were damaged. Harrisville and Natural Bridge fire departments were dispatched to multiple reports of trees and wires down in the impacted area, some blocking roadways. The first dispatch came in around 7:20 PM for trees and wires down on the North Shore Road. Portions of Mill Street and Maple Street in the Village of Harrisville were also temporarily blocked by trees and wires. The American Red Cross was providing assistance to the displaced family. At one point last evening nearly 1,200 National Grid customers were without power. Power was restored through the overnight, with no outages in the area reported this morning. Other portions of the county experienced heavy rainfall along with thunder and lighting as the storms quickly moved through. |
