Court this afternoon, where he entered GUILTY pleas to charges of second- degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class "A" felony and third-degree Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, a class "D" felony. He was then placed into the County's drug court program. Final sentencing will take place after drug court is completed. If Mr. Thomas successfully completes drug court, the plea deal will allow the second-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance charge to be vacated and he will instead plead guilty to third-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class "B" felony. With successful completion of drug court, Mr. Thomas would be looking at a sentence of 6 months in Lewis County Jail along with 5 years of probation. If unsuccessful, the "A" felony would remain and he would be faced with a sentence of 5 years in State prison, followed by 5 years of post-release parole. Mr. Thomas, along with co-defendant Billy Mono, were accused of possessing and manufacturing methamphetamine at a residence in the Town of Croghan on November 21, 2017. Mr. Mono is scheduled for a jury trial beginning on September 10th. |
