    Lowville, NY- Lewis County has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the New
    York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) for a LED
    lighting conversion project at County owned facilities.

    Lewis County was eligible for the grant as a State designated Clean Energy
    Community. The County obtained the designation in 2017, by completing five
    high impact actions recognized by the State, becoming the first North Country
    county to receive the designation.

    The Clean Energy Community (CEC) designation allows the County to be
    eligible for  grants supported by NYSERDA for various clean energy projects.

    After receiving the CEC designation, the County Buildings & Grounds
    department, along with the County Planning department, submitted an
    application to upgrade the County's interior lighting fixtures to energy-efficient
    LEDs. The conversion would include all fixtures at the County's Public Safety
    Building, Department of Social Services building and the Courthouse buildings.
    The application also included exterior LED lighting at the Public Safety Building,
    and the addition of two electric vehicle charging stations on County property.

    The project, completely funded through the $100,000 grant- with no matching
    funds required, will offer benefits for years to come in the form of electricity cost
    savings with the more efficient LED lighting.
