    Beaver Falls, NY- Lewis County kicked off Police Appreciation Week with a 5K
    run and K-9 demonstrations at Beaver River Central School this morning. This is
    the fourth year that the Lewis County Police Appreciation group has organized
    the event.

    The event coincides with National Police Week, May 13-19, with the local group
    honoring the families of area fallen officers and showing their appreciation and
    respect for those currently in law enforcement.

    The day started with K-9 demonstrations from the Lewis County Sheriff's Office,
    the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and the Utica Police Department. Each
    showcased a different aspect of police canine duties, including explosives
    detection, drug detection and suspect apprehension.
