Lewis County maintenance employees this morning, providing their ladder truck to swap out the blower motor on the roof of the Lewis County Court House. Just before ten o'clock on Sunday evening, Lowville Fire was dispatched to the court house, after emergency dispatchers were alerted to multiple smoke alarms inside the building. After arriving on scene and entering the building, firefighters reported smoke inside the building, notably on the third floor. As a precaution, Castorland Fire was requested to respond with an interior crew. Firefighters quickly determined that a blower motor on the roof of the building had blown, carrying the smoke through the ventilation system. Castorland was told to stand down, with their crew not needed. A portion of State Street was closed for around an hour as crews worked at the scene and aired out the building. About half the building has been without air conditioning since the incident, with some offices yesterday reaching temperatures of 80 degrees and above. A new blower motor was ordered, with Lowville Fire providing their ladder truck this morning to assist in swapping out the motors. Lewis County Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Frank Archer told us that he anticipated it would take a few hours to install the new motor this morning, but he hoped to have the air up and running by this afternoon. No significant damage was caused to the interior of the building during the incident Sunday night, according to Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche. Below is some video of the ladder truck in action this morning. |
