the world over the past few years, brightening the day of children stricken with serious illness or poverty. Dawn O'Connor started 'Helping Little Heroes' in August of 2015, after seeing a Facebook post about a four-year old who was battling cancer. She sent him a care package for his birthday and she received a message from the family of how appreciative they were. From there Dawn began using money earned from babysitting to buy items and supplies to send care packages and cards to other sick children. Dawn said she has sent over a thousand packages and cards, across the United States and to a number of other countries including the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Dawn started a Facebook page for her non-profit Helping Little Heroes organization, where she shares stories and updates on the packages and cards she sends. Helping Little Heroes' Mission, as listed on the Facebook page, "is to bring a smile to young children as they battle serious illness or poverty. I remind them to "stay strong" and offer support to their families through their hardship. I also support childhood cancer awareness, bring "bags of bravery" to local children's hospitals, support national/international hospitals through donation of supplies such a band-aids, and honor heroes who have passed away." We met Dawn this morning at the 'Spring into Healthy Living' health fair at Lewis County General Hospital, where she shared some of her story in the video below.
