Lewis County, NY- Law enforcement officers were present at most Lewis
County school districts during dismissals this afternoon, in an abundance of
caution, according to Sheriff Michael Carpinelli.

The Sheriff said school district's were notified through Jefferson-Lewis BOCES
officials that an unconfirmed threat had been received at the office of a
newspaper in Watertown, alleging a bomb threat and shooting at an unspecified
school. Some districts in Jefferson County were put into lockout.

The Sheriff said none of the five districts in Lewis County were placed in lockout.
Officers from the Sheriff's Office, NYSP, and Lowville Police were deployed to
the districts for dismissal as a precautionary measure.

The Sheriff said the New York State Police are investigating the origin of the
threat, which appears to possibly be a hoax.

We'll update if any further details are received.
