Watertown Man Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter
Stemming from Fatal Crash in New Bremen Last November

    Lowville, NY- A Watertown man entered a guilty plea to second-degree
    Vehicular Manslaughter, a class "D" felony, this morning in Lewis County Court,
    with the Honorable Daniel R. King presiding, satisfying all counts he was facing.

    Mathew Schweinsberg, 23, was facing a number of charges following a fatal
    crash in the Town of New Bremen in the early morning hours of November 12,
    2017.

    Mr. Schweinsberg was headed westbound on the Soft Maple Road around
    3:06 AM that morning, when he lost control of his 1997 Ford F350 on a curve,
    according to the accident report from the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. The truck
    exited the roadway, rolling over and coming to a rest against a tree.

    There were two passengers in the vehicle. Madison Furgison, 19, was airlifted to
    a Syracuse hospital, where she was listed in good condition at the time. Andrew
    Freeman, 21, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    Mr. Schweinsberg was originally charged with second-degree Vehicular
    manslaughter, a class "D" felony, DWI, Unsafe Speed for a Curve and Unsafe
    Tire.

    Sentencing in the case was adjourned to July 13th, when he is expected to
    receive a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years.
