Lowville, NY- The Lewis County Board of Legislators on Tuesday night
approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Road Patrol bargaining unit,
represented by the United Public Service Employees Union, for a new four-year
    labor agreement.

The road patrol unit, which consists of about 20 Sheriff's deputies who have
been without a contract since January 1, 2016, has also approved the agreement.

Lewis County Director of Human Resources Chris Boulio said the agreement
includes a cumulative salary increase of 8.75% over the four-year life of the
contract. The contract, when signed, will run retroactive to January 1, 2016
    through December 31, 2019.

The deal includes a 2.5% raise for 2016, although deputies will not receive
retroactive pay. For 2017, the deal includes a 2.5% salary increase, with
deputies receiving partial retroactive pay of a flat amount. The increase for 2018
is 1.25% and 2019 will see a 2.5% increase, totaling 8.7% over the life of the
    contract.

The deal also increases employee health insurance contributions from 22% to
25% and eliminated a shift differential paid between the hours of 3 PM and 6 PM.
