has been requesting the addition of a second Assistant District Attorney (ADA), as her office has seen a steady increase in felony and misdemeanor cases to prosecute. Up until a Thursday meeting of the Lewis County Board of Legislators Courts and Law committee, Ms. Moser has had little success convincing the three member committee to move forward with her request. While the committee approved adding a probation officer to the probation department and a second investigator at the Sheriff's office over the past year, they have repeatedly balked at the idea of creating a second ADA position, citing cost concerns. The District Attorney has made a number of presentations to the committee outlining the staffing concerns at her office. On Thursday morning, a compromise seemed to be reached for now, with the committee voting 3-0 to recommend adding a part-time ADA position. Committee Chairman Greg Kulzer and members Jerry King and Ronald Burns were all in favor of moving the recommendation forward. The recommendation will now move to the legislative Human Resources committee for their approval before it can be presented to the full board for a vote. Speaking with DA Moser following the meeting, she expressed her gratefulness of finally getting a recommendation from the Courts and Law committee, although she still maintains a full-time ADA is needed. She conceded that at this point anything would be helpful and a part-time ADA position would be better than her office's current situation.
