District 9 Legislator Roscoe "Rocky" Fawcett, Jr. Passes Away at Age 81

    Lewis County's District 9 Legislator, Roscoe "Rocky" Fawcett, Jr. passed away
    on Monday, at the age of 81. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
    Legislator Fawcett had missed the past few board meetings while battling an
    illness.

    Mr. Fawcett was first elected to the board in 2015 and was reelected this past
    November. District 9 includes the towns of Lyonsdale and Greig. He also
    served as chairman of the Industrial Development Agency's board of directors.

    Republican committee members from Lyonsdale and Greig will need to select a
    candidate to appoint to the District 9 seat for 2018 and there will likely be a
    special election for the seat in November. County Legislators will need to
    appoint a legislator to serve on the IDA board.

    In a statement, Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche said "Rocky was an
    intelligent and enthusiastic public servant. When he moved to Lewis County, he
    saw the potential for growth here, and immediately became involved. I hope
    Rocky will inspire more people to jump-in and get involved in their communities
    like he did."
