Lowville, NY- A trial date was set in Lewis County Court this morning for Port
Leyden residents Anthony Belmont, 74 and Janice Belmont, 72. The husband
and wife are each facing a count of third-degree Grand Larceny, a class "D"
    felony.

The Belmonts were arraigned on an indictment that was unsealed in Lewis
County Court on September 27th, when they both entered pleas of NOT
GUILTY. They are accused of stealing property exceeding $3,000 from Julie
Belmont- who was in her 90s at the time, between January of 2010 and
    September of 2013.

Mrs. Janice Belmont, a long-time Village of Port Leyden Trustee and former
Justice of the Peace in the Village, was the only candidate on the ballot in
November for two open trustee seats, when she was elected to another term
    on the board.

A trial date for both has been scheduled for April 2nd in Lewis County Court. A
special prosecutor, Steven D. Cole- an Assistant District Attorney from
Jefferson County, is handling the case for the prosecution. Attorney William J.
Riley is representing Mrs. Belmont with Attorney Michael F. Young
    representing Mr. Belmont.
