Legislators this evening, county lawmakers rejected a resolution authorizing the county to join a class-action lawsuit with other counties against manufacturers of opioids, by a 6-2 vote. Legislator Rocky Fawcett was excused from the meeting and Legislator Lawrence Dolhof abstained from the vote. Legislators Craig Brennen and Richard Chartrand were in favor of the measure, with the remaining six- Philip Hathway, Jerry King, Greg Kulzer, Andrea Moroughan, Bryan Moser and Michael Tabolt- all in opposition. The board debated the issue, with Legislator Hathway arguing the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) was more to blame as they approved the drugs after a lengthy process and it is misplaced to sue the pharmaceutical companies. Legislator Chartrand agreed that the FDA held responsibility, but the pharmaceutical companies hold a good deal of responsibility as well, he argued. Chairman Michael Tabolt argued when it came down to it you can always find someone to blame and didn't agree with suing everyone.
