    Media Release:

The public is invited to attend a meeting on Monday, October 30 at 6:30 PM in
the community room at Ridge View Lodge on State Route 12 in Lowville.

Concerned citizens are hoping to come together and exchange ideas on how to
best address the stray cat problem in our towns.  Representatives from local
veterinary offices, the Lewis County Humane Society and town officials have
    been invited to attend.

Who might benefit from this meeting?
*Landlords - sometimes cats are left behind when a tenant moves.
*Farmers - I grew up on a farm and we always had about 25 in the barn who
had very often been "'dropped off"'.
    *Any animal lovers
*Residents of the Village of Lowville, where there is a large population of stray
    cats

Subjects will cover the difference between adoptable and feral cats, the cost of
obtaining proper vet care, the roles of municipalities, the abilities of local
humane societies to deal with this issue, facts about trap/neuter/release, how
to make a cat shelter for outdoor cats and more.

Possible fundraising ideas will also be discussed as well as how to reach out to
local charities and resources for help.
