Lewis County, NY- Lewis County Public Transportation has proposed a new
public bus route to Jefferson Community College, which county legislators are
expected to approve at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning.

The proposed route would operate Monday through Friday, beginning on
August 28th. The bus is scheduled to arrive at JCC each morning at 9 AM, with
a return bus departing from JCC each evening at 5 PM. The fare each way
would be $1 with a student ID.

Stops for the proposed route would include Port Leyden(Cliff's Market), Lyons
    Falls(McManus Hotel), Glenfield(Post Office), Lowville(Tops Plazza), Croghan
(Croghan Convenience), Carthage(Kinney Drugs), Deer River, and
Copenhagen. The run will use the same bus stop at JCC as the Watertown
Citibus system. A Citibus is scheduled to depart daily at 9:10 AM for anyone
wanting to use the route to get to Watertown for any reason.

Fare rates and schedule times for the proposed route will be issued following
approval form the Board of Legislators, said Casandra M. Buell, County
Planner and Mobility Manager. Anyone with questions can contact Ms. Buell by
calling 315-376-5919 or by email at casandrabuell@lewiscountyny.gov.

The department is also asking legislators to approve spending the $56,545.00
the county was already awarded in federal Accelerated Transit Capitol(ATC)
funds from 2015/16. Three specific projects have been earmarked for the use
    of the funding:
1.) $29,385 for the purchase of a 2017 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid vehicle for
use as the mobility management vehicle for the planner to travel to
    meetings and training.
2.) $3,407.80 for the purchase of 55 bus stop signs to be placed at
    various locations along bus routes.
3.) $2,697.00 for the purchase and installation of three WiFi modems on
Lewis County Transportation buses, including the new JCC Connector
    route.
