JCSO: Carthage Man Charged With DWI, Fleeing Officer

    Clayton, NY- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrested Thomas J. Wood,
    23, of Carthage, on Monday night in the Town of Clayton.

    Deputies state that on July 3rd at approximately 11:13 PM, on State Route 12
    in the Town of Clayton, Mr. Wood fled a marked Jefferson County Sheriff's
    Office car which had its emergency lights and siren activated. Mr. Wood
    proceeded to drive recklessly, exceeding the speed limit by over 25-miles per
    hour, according to deputies.

    Mr. Wood later stopped on Valley Drive, in the Town of Clayton, where he was
    transported to the public safety building and registered a .13 blood alcohol
    content.

    He was charged with:
    Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer- Class "A" Misdemeanor
    Driving While Intoxicated- Unclassified Misdemeanor
    Reckless Driving- Unclassified Misdemeanor
    Speed Violation- Traffic Infraction
    Illegal Signal- Traffic Infraction
    Failure to Keep Right- Traffic Infraction
    Drinking Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle- Traffic Infraction
    Failed to Use Headlights- Traffic Infraction

    Mr. Wood was arraigned in the Town of Clayton Justice Court and released on
    his own recognizance, to reappear on July 11th.
