Lowville Man Sentenced to Serve Time in Prison on Burglary Charge

    Lowville, NY- Randy W. Harten Jr., 24, of Lowville was sentenced this
    morning in Lewis County Court, with the Honorable Daniel R. King presiding,
    on a charge of third-degree Burglary.

    Mr. Harten, a second-felony offender, received a sentence of 3 1/2 to 7 years
    in state prison on the charge, which he entered a guilty plea to on May 26th.
    The sentence is to run consecutive to any remaining parole from previous
    convictions. He has previous convictions of third-degree Burglary charges from
    2016 in both Jefferson and Lewis County courts. Additionally, he was ordered
    to pay $375 in court fees and $7232.50 in restitution.

    He was accused of entering the Lowville Redemption Center on December 9,
    2016 and stealing cash and other items.

    An accomplice in the burglary, Rebeka A. Caplicki, 24, of Lowville, also
    appeared in court this morning, where she entered a GUILTY plea to a charge
    of third-degree Burglary. Sentencing in her case was set for August 4th.

    In other sentencing activity this morning in Lewis County Court:

    After successful completion of Interim Conditions of Probation, Paul R.
    Bigelow, 23, of Natural Bridge, had his charge of second-degree Attempted
    Assault, a class "E" felony to which he pleaded guilty to on June 10, 2016,
    vacated and instead charged with third-degree Assault, a class "A"
    misdemeanor. He was then sentenced to a three-year probation term, 50-hours
    of community service, and ordered to pay $50 in court fees. An order of
    protection was issued on behalf of the victim for a five-year period. Restitution
    in the amount of $1072.50 has been paid in full. Mr. Bigelow was accused of
    hitting another individual over the head with a wooden stool in the Town of
    Diana on July 04, 2015.

    Melissa P. Hutchins, 29, of Watertown, was given a three-year Conditional
    Discharge on a charge of third-degree Criminal Mischief, a class "E" felony,
    and ordered to pay $50 in court fees. She entered a GUILTY plea to the
    charge on March 31st. Ms. Hutchins was accused of damaging a 2010
    Volkswagon Jetta in the Town of Martinsburg on November 18, 2016.
    Restitution in the amount of $500 has been paid.
