March has found a new home. According to a Facebook post from the Animal Adventure Park, the baby American alligator will join the educational program at the park, located just outside of Binghamton. Two alligator hatchlings were confiscated by the NYS DEC on March 28 in Lyons Falls, after being illegally brought here from a pet shop in Florida. The alligators, both in poor health, were temporarily housed at the NYS Zoo at Thompson Park in Watertown, where one could not be saved. After helping the remaining alligator fight off an infection and providing it with the proper nutrition, it became healthy enough to move to the Animal Adventure Park. The interactive park is home to a wide variety of species, including mammals, birds and reptiles. The animal park is designed to promote up close and hands- on animal encounters, where visitors can hand feed many domestic and exotic animal ambassadors or get within feet of cute, but less cuddly, carnivores, according to their website. The park opens for the season on May 13th. For more information you can visit the Animal Adventure Park website. |
