auditorium, the annual National Police Week ceremony will take place, sponsored by the Lewis County Police Appreciation Committee. Honoring those in law enforcement that have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those retired and still serving, the evening will feature guest speaker St. Lawrence County Undersheriff Brooks Bigwarfe, sharing events surrounding the capture and arrest of the individuals involved in the abduction of two young Amish children in 2014. Winners of the county-wide essay contest will be announced, and recent retirees will be honored. The event is free to attend and open to the public, with refreshments to follow. On Sunday May 21, the 3rd annual Police Week 5K in Lewis County will be held on the cross country trail behind the Beaver River Central School. Registration can be done online at runsignup.com ( race name Lewis County P. A.W. 5K-9) , or on the day of the race. Register by May 5 to be guaranteed a T-Shirt. Sign in begins at 8 AM, with Police K9 demonstrations preceding the race and a free Children’s Fun Run following the 5K. The school track will be available for non-competitive participants.
