Lowville Lions Present Village With Check for
Park Project, Still Seeking Donations to Reach Goal

    Lowville, NY- The Lowville Lions Club recently presented the Village of
    Lowville with a check in the amount of $15,495, as a down payment to order
    the proposed clock for the park project being developed in the village.

    The project involves the vacant four corners lot at the main intersection of
    State Street and Dayan Street in the village. The property was the site of a
    1999 fire and has been unoccupied since. The village took ownership of the
    property in 2015 and is moving forward with a planned parking area and green
    space. Village DPW crews could begin work on the project within the next few
    weeks, according to village Depart of Public Works Superintendent Tom
    Compo.

    The Lions Club has raised approximately $45,000 of the $60,000 goal, for the
    purchase of a four-faced pedestal clock tower, along with benches, planters
    and landscaping for the green area portion of the project. The clock, which
    costs about $30,000, will be equipped with a 'Town Crier' music feature. It will
    also include four bronze plaques acknowledging major contributors.

    The check presented by the Lions last week will allow the village to order the
    clock, which required a down payment of 50%, to ensure it will be ready when
    the park is expected to be completed in early June. The custom clock, made by
    Verdin Bells & Clocks in Cincinnati, Ohio, would be delivered approximately 90
    days from the order date.

    Plans for the currently unnamed park include 18-21 parking spaces, lighting,
    and a green area.




























    With the club over 75% of the way to raising their goal, Lions are still seeking
    donations from both individuals and businesses alike. The Lions became
    involved in the effort as they celebrate their 60th year of service to the
    community, and were looking for a legacy project.

    "We are asking people who haven't donated yet, or businesses that haven't
    used their donation budget yet, to consider making a donation to our project,"
    Lowville Lions Club President Sheree Vora. "We would also like to reach out to
    Lowville alumni who may no longer live in the area but would like to donate to a
    legacy project beautifying their hometown," she added.

    Anyone making a donation will have their name read at the opening ceremony
    for the park, Mrs. Vora said.
