Croghan, NY- The Croghan Lions Club is pleased to announce that Edna Ritz and Ian Widrick have been chosen as their Citizens of the Year 2017. They both exemplify the Lions Motto: WE SERVE!
Beaver River Central School and H.G.Sackett Technical Center. His service throughout the community has been exceptional and ranges from an alter server and fireman to maintaining the Croghan ball field and Long Pond snowmobile trails. In school he has successfully competed on the soccer, baseball and trap shooting teams and hopes to become an electrician. Edna, born during the Great Depression, was the oldest girl in a large family and soon learned to care for those around her while her parents worked to provide for the family. In 1950 she married Carl and they raised nine children who, with their guidance, have followed in their footsteps. Edna has a “How can I help you attitude” and a smile that lets you she has a great sense of humor. A life member of St. Stephen’s Church and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and other local organizations, she has always lived the theory that, if she had it, it was hers to give to someone who needed it more. Edna has definitely led a life of service and sharing too long to recite here. If you wish to honor these two fine people please make reservations to attend the Croghan Lion’s “Jim Scanlon Citizens of the Year Awards Banquet” at the Beaver River Memorial Post #1663 on Friday, April 7th. The social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 with presentations to follow. Reservations can be made by calling club president, Marian Opela at 315 376-8639 or e-mailing Pat Ford at psawdust@frontiernet.net no later than March 22nd. The cost of the dinner is $18.00 for adults, $16.00 for students and children 5 and under are free. All family, friends and community members as well as past award recipients are invited to attend to help honor and roast Edna and Ian. Impromptu remarks will be welcomed from anyone who wishes to share and we are looking forward to a fun as well as an inspirational evening! |
