have noticed a new banner for Gouverneur Savings & Loan on the front of the Lowville Commons Building on South State Street. We stopped in this week to find out a little more about the latest addition to the Lowville business landscape. Gouverneur Savings & Loan, headquartered in Gouverneur, has added a lending office in Lowville to their lineup, which also includes a full-service branch in Alexandria Bay in addition to their Gouverneur location. When asked, “Why Lowville?”, Loan Officer Lisa Wash explained, “Lowville and the Lewis County market are very similar in makeup to Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County in terms of needs and unique property types. Manufactured Homes and large acreage properties are hard to get financed because most banks are using secondary market investors and underwriting. Gouverneur S&L understands what it’s like to live in the North Country. We do our own underwriting and can offer in house mortgages for those properties that don’t conform to secondary market guidelines. Having this flexibility and local decision making speeds up the process and really sets us apart from the competition.” The new office, located in the Lowville Commons Building at 7550 S. State St., offers a wide range of consumer loans, with commercial loans available by appointment. The office will be open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 Am until 4:30 PM, with a two-person staff. A commercial loan officer is available by appointment. The branch is not a full-service location at this time, with no deposit or payment processing available. Customers can inquire about loans, from mortgages and car loans, to atv, snowmobile and personal loans. Customers do not need an account with Gouverneur Savings & Loan to apply for loans. "While we don’t currently have any plans to make this a full service branch, our Alexandria Bay endeavor started as a lending office and within three years turned into a full-service branch,” Ms. Wash noted.
