Lowville, NY- The bench trial of Brenda E. Roth concluded this morning in
Lewis County Court, with Judge John Crandall presiding.

After two days of testimony, the day started with closing arguments from both
the prosecution and defense. Judge Crandall then took just under an hour to
deliberate the case, before returning with his verdicts for each count.

Ms. Roth was found guilty on all four of the counts she was facing, stemming
from the December 28, 2014 death of 15-year-old Derek Holton, at her Deer
River residence. Guilty verdicts were returned on each of the following charges:
    - Second-degree Manslaughter
    - Criminally Negligent Homicide
    - Tampering With Evidence
    - Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Sentencing was set for March 31st, with Ms. Roth being immediately remanded
to the Lewis County Jail, without bail. She faces anywhere from 5 to 15 years
in prison, on the top count manslaughter charge, when sentenced.
