Lowville- For a second time, a Lewis County jury has convicted James E. Hall,
II, 39, of Copenhagen on charges of first-degree Course of Sexual Conduct
Against a Child, a class "B" felony and Endangering the Welfare of a Child a
class "A" misdemeanor. Lewis County Judge Daniel King presided over the
trial, which began yesterday. Sentencing was set for February 17, with Mr. Hall
    being remanded without bail.

The charges stem from events taking place in the Town of Denmark, between
September of 2009 and October of 2010, with the victim aged six and seven at
the time. Mr. Hall was previously convicted of the charges and sentenced in
October, 2011 to 22 1/2 years in State Prison. An Appellate Court overturned
the conviction in October of 2016, finding that former Lewis County Judge
Charles C. Merrell made a mistake in denying a request to remove shackles
during the original trial, without making a finding on the record concerning a
    need for restraints.

"I'm very pleased with the jury's decision," Lewis County District Attorney
Leanne Moser told us after the verdict was delivered. "I'm sure the family will
feel that justice has been served. It certainly was not easy for them to have to
come back and do this again," she said.
